Our Team, Our Story
One year I moved into the run down, former home of my grandparents with the intention of restoring it after years of disuse. Around me I had a group of hard working and loyal friends in jobs we mostly disliked after careers as painters, plasterers, carpenters, handymen, construction experts, concierges and professional cleaners.
Over the course of 6 months we worked together bring life back into a place that had been abandoned with our collective free time. Deep cleaning every room, rewiring outdated sockets and lights, installing mirrors that had been covered in dust, organizing a garage with 70 years of collected trash. Completing changing the interior design of the house we spent hours re-grouting bathrooms, repainting rooms and the house facade, replacing moldings and baseboards, installing curtains, assembling furniture, plastering walls. Replacing showers and faucets, building a ceiling to separate floors and repairing outdoor walls and fences to make the place more than just liveable but a place that someone would want to live. During those 6 months we found ourselves diverging, sometimes to help one of our friends paint a house, or fix their walls as they noticed what we were doing or they noticed the need was there.
Nearing the end of the project we found collections of documents (we refer back to 70 years of trash) and in those documents I found a relic of years ago; my grandfather's certificate as a painter.
Fixing this house gave my friends and myself a sense of satisfaction that we had been missing from our lives and restarted a passion we had all once had for restoring houses. We took this card as a sign and opened Hygea Home Care; focusing on painting, handymen work and anything we could do to make spaces shine as much as they deserve.
We come from diverse backgrounds, have years of experience in different fields and hands on knowledge of how to think in and outside the box to bring out the project you always wanted to do or take care of the job you never wanted to do in the first place. Sometimes what you need is easier than you think to get done; you just need a helping hand from Hygea.
